πŸŒΈπŸ‘οΈ Spring is in the air… but unfortunately, so are allergies 🀧

Symptoms of allergies in the eyes include itchiness and redness, watery eyes with stringy, mucous discharge, red puffy eyelids, light sensitivity and even blurry vision.

Here are five tips to help you survive this hayfever and allergy season.

  1. 🚫 As tempting as it may be, DON'T rub your eyes! 🚫🚫🚫

Vigorous and longterm eye rubbing can cause permanent damage to your eye health.

  2. πŸ™… Where possible, remove or avoid the allergen. For example:

    • 🏑 Check the pollen count during the Spring months. Avoid going outdoors to parks and gardens, and keep windows closed on high-pollen days.

    • 😷 Wear a mask and eye protection when gardening or cleaning dust, mould or pet fur.

  3. ❄️ Applying a cool compress onto closed eyes can provide symptomatic relief.

  4. 🧴 Use lubricating drops / artificial tears

  5. πŸ’§ If your symptoms persist, see your optometrist β€” you may need specific allergy eye drops, or there may be other non-allergy underlying causes that need to be treated. 🌱✨😎
